Jim Cortner, AIA

Principal Architect

Jim Cortner has over 28 years of experience in architectural design of commercial, educational, healthcare and transportation projects with construction costs up to $15 million. Responsible for meeting the overall project schedule, fee and construction budget, Jim meets with clients and stakeholders to define project goals and requirements. He organizes the project team, directly working with in-house and outside consultants. Jim develops specifications for bidding and construction, confirming the specifications, product research and drawings are of high-quality and free of inconsistencies. Gaining the trust and confidence of clients, contractors and the design team through diligent coordination and communication, Jim delivers his knowledge of architectural programming, planning, technical design, codes, agency requirements, building materials and construction methods with a passion for providing exceptional client service.

Active in the construction industry for over 25 years, Bill’s experience in a variety of roles (Heavy Equipment Operator, Site Superintendent, Project Manager, and Estimator) provides a unique understanding of construction progress. He conducts constructability reviews during each design phase. He also prepares an estimate of the materials, labor and equipment required to complete the work, refining cost summaries as drawings and specifications are refined. During construction, Bill monitors the contractor’s work for compliance with plans, specifications and schedules, reporting safety hazards and defective work to the contractor for correction.
